Re-associate a "dead track" with a file found via Spotlight

Obligatory warning: This script has been designated as an obsoleted "Retro Script". There is no guarantee that it will function as described with modern versions of iTunes and OS X. If used in its current form it may not work at all without modification and, at worst, it may corrupt or destroy data.

This script will allow you to select a "dead" file track in iTunes (designated with the (!)) and attempt to locate a file using Spotlight that corresponds to the selected track's Song Name, Artist, and Album, and then replace the dead track with a file from the search results. All tag data, including artwork, is preserved from the original track selected.

Designated as a Retro Script because: never very efficient to begin with, the script is less so under modern circumstances.

(See the more modern Track CPR.)

Bring Out Yer Dead is for the Mac OS. It does not run on the Windows operating system.

(Note: In order to launch this PowerPC-era script on an Intel machine, it must first be opened and then saved using Script Editor (AppleScript Editor pre-OS X 10.0) which is located in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder. More information is here.)
