UPDATED: Needle Drop v7.4

For macOS 11 and later only. This applet plays each track in the selected Music playlist for a set time interval optionally starting at a set number of seconds into each track, beginning with the selected track. Handy for 'scoping playlists.

Needle Drop will work best on tracks that have local files. Un-cached tracks streamed from the cloud may upset timing while audio is being downloaded.

Also see Audition End.

UPDATED: Merge-Delete Playlists v6.2

For macOS 10.15 and later only. This script will allow you to merge the track contents of two or more playlists to a new or existing playlist or delete any number of playlists at once, including Smart, Genius, and Playlist Folder playlists. The merge feature will prevent the same tracks that may appear in different source playlists from being duplicated and has an option to delete original playlists. The delete feature only deletes playlists; tracks, of course, remain in the library.

This app is free to try full-featured in Demo Mode. In Demo Mode it will only process 5 playlists per launch. If you like it you can purchase a code for $1.99 which will unlock the Demo Mode restriction. Launch the app and click "Register…" in its File menu to make an in-app purchase.

Latest version:

  • Additional accommodations for macOS 11 Big Sur
  • Minor maintenance

UPDATED: Media Folder Files Not Added v1.7

I mentioned earlier that the script Media Folder Files Not Added was being tripped up by some possible macOS 11.2.3 post-install mishigas. I had been working on it when I paused to do the update. After a few reboots, everything seems fine again and so I've finished tweaking the script.

This application will list the file paths of the media files in your designated "Media" folder which are not associated with any tracks in the Music or TV app's track library. Additionally, a different parent folder can be user-selected and its contents will be compared to the current library. Includes options to Export a text file listing the file paths, Filter within results, Add a selection of found files to Music or TV, and move them to the Trash. The latter two features are only available in the registered version.

For macOS 10.15 and later only. Also see Super Remove Dead Tracks and List MIAs.

Latest version:

  • Additional accommodations for macOS 11 Big Sur
  • Minor maintenance

macOS 11.2.3 Peculiarities

After upgrading today to macOS 11.2.3, I noticed that my scripts and apps that employ the iTunesLibrary framework are having trouble accessing media information. This includes my app "Dupin" and the script "Media Folder Files Not Added" and a small number of others. Affected apps/scripts will likely be unable to complete an initialization routine and stall at "Indexing" or similar stage. I am actively investigating this issue.

UPDATE, March 9, 2021: After several machine reboots (and fsck, disengaging connected devices and so on; the usual start-up regimens), things are now working as expected. I could not say what caused the issue I was experiencing or why it came and went.

UPDATED: Artwork as Album Folder Icon v2.6

For macOS 10.15 and later only. This script can be used two ways:

When run as an Applet, it will use the assigned artwork from the selected tracks as the icon for the folder containing each track's corresponding file in the Finder--presumably, this is the file's "Album" folder.

When launched as a Droplet--by dragging one or more folders to its icon--it will examine every folder (at all depths) for the first audio file in any folder that contains image metadata and use that image as the icon for that folder.

This app is free to try in Demo Mode. In Demo Mode only up to 5 folders can be processed per launch. You can purchase a code for $1.99 which will remove the Demo Mode restriction. Launch the app and click "Register..." in the its File menu to make an in-app purchase.

Latest version:

  • UI and logic maintenance

Additionally, you can choose to use a particular Playlist as the source of tracks and include/exclude specific Genres.

UPDATED: Save Album Art to Album Folder v6.9

For macOS 10.15 and later only. This script will export the artwork of the selected tracks (or the tracks in a selected playlist) as an image file to the folder which contains each selected track's file--presumably each track's Album folder--or a single user-selected folder. If multiple album tracks are selected, the script will make sure only one artwork file per Album is exported.
