OTD 2001, Apple Announced iTunes 2
iTunes 2 was pretty exciting. EQ settings, cross fading and MP3 CD burning were the new prestige features. And the iPod was announced the same day.
“iTunes 2 seamlessly integrates with iPod, allowing Mac users to quickly and easily download their entire iTunes 2 digital music collection of up to 1,000 songs into an iPod in under 10 minutes.” Woo! Stand back!
One thing not mentioned in the press release was that iTunes 2 would also have greatly expanded AppleScript support. The first version of iTunes only had play, next, previous, pause and stop commands and no accessible elements. But iTunes 2’s AppleScript support was even more robust than it had been in SoundJam, the jukebox app that iTunes was based on.
iTunes 2 was formally released a couple of weeks later, in time to use with that new iPod 1,000 songs thing.
